Detective Griffin Knight is called upon to investigate the case of two missing women in New York City in The Nocturnal Devil by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.

The information presented to Detective Knight leads him to believe that the crime is the work of a serial killer, a serial killer who just so happens to believe he is a vampire. With plenty of twist and turns to keep Detective Knight hunting for the truth of the disappearances of these two women, he will stop at nothing to find out what happened to them and make sure no one else become this crazy killer’s next victim. Is Detective Knight successful in solving the case of these two poor victims and bringing their killer to justice?

This reviewer was swept right off her feet with this action-packed mystery-thriller right from the start. I am new to this series and as I found out, each book can stand alone so you never feel that you are lost in trying to figure out what is happening. Hernandez crafted his storyline to have plenty of intense mystery, entwined with thrilling details that makes readers sit on the edge of their seats trying to figure out who the killer is and if Detective Knight can take him down before new victims are found.

The characters were crafted to be so believable that this reviewer truly felt sorry for the two women that vanished in the middle of the night in New York City. Readers will develop feelings for each of the characters, whether good or bad depending on the character involved, which only adds another layer of authenticity to this storyline. Suffice it to say that readers will feel they are assisting Detective Knight in his investigation and will truly want to take down this madman of a killer before another person falls victim to him.

The background details of New York City were so real, it made the location feel as if it was another character as well. You could see, breathe, and feel the location as if you were standing on one of the streets trying to solve this intricate investigation alongside Detective Knight. To have an author craft their story’s surroundings so well that it breathes life into the storyline is just remarkable!

Hernandez provided plenty of twists and turns to keep his readers thoroughly engaged with his storyline and characters. Some twists were a bit predictable, while others were totally unexpected, adding to the dynamic of the story as a whole.

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is an award-winning mystery and thriller author. He writes fast-paced mysteries and thrillers that make you feel like you are watching a movie unfold as you turn the pages. This is book 3 in the Griffin Knight Universe and can be read as a stand-alone story if you didn’t read the stories in sequence.

Quill says: The Nocturnal Devil is one story that pulls you in immediately and carries you until the very last sentence. The storyline is intriguing, the characters are thoroughly believable, and the ending is surprising in the best way!
