Beginning with a map of the five boroughs of New York City, our perky pigeon gives readers a grand tour. We start on Broadway, learning about popular plays and why the street is nicknamed "The Great White Way." From here it's on to Wall Street, Coney Island, the museums and after an exhuasting day of sightseeing, finishing with a game at Yankee Stadium and then home via Grand Central Terminal. Along the way, the authors include information on anti-immigration laws and what happened when they were changed, how the ports of New York helped the city grow, and what New Yorkers do for entertainment.
Twin sisters Martha and Heather Zschock have created the "Journey" series, a series of books that journey through cities such as Boston, San Francisco, and Chicago as well as such smaller, but quite popular travel destinations as Cape Cod. These books are not just fun but also educational. Lots of great facts about each destination are included which make this a perfect book to aid the young student with a research project on New York City. In Journey Around New York, the young reader will learn such things as how the invention of the elevator helped New York expand, how immigrants contributed to the growth of the city, and what happens on Wall Street and where the name originated. The pages are full of detailed drawings of each spot in the city, and our busy little pigeon is in every drawing - see if you can find him! What a fun way to learn about New York City.
Quill says: Enjoy a wonderful and educational trip around the Big Apple with this wonderful book.
